ADJUSTING THE INTONATION

Intonation adjustment is usually necessary when new strings are fitted (it can also be affected by the angle of the tremolo unit).

Adjusting the intonation is performed by moving the individual string saddles forward or backward.

To check the intonation: Use an electronic tuner and tune the guitar to a standard pitch.

Note: All lbanez guitars use A--440 for a standard pitch. Play the harmonic at the 12th fret, compare it to the fretted noteat the 12th fret, these notes should read the same on the tuner.

Before adjusting the intonation, first determine the direction that the saddle needs to be moved.

Note: If the 12th fret is sharper than the open note, the saddle needs to be moved back.

If the 12th fret is flatter than the open note, the saddle needs to be moved forward.

TRUSSROD

All guitar necks are subject to great stress as a result of string tension, humidity or changes in climactic conditions. Occasionally, there are times when the neck may need adjustment.

The truss rod is adjustable at the headstock using as allen wrench or an adjustment wrench.

Note: This adjustment should be performed periodically and only by qualified repair personnel. Over adjustment can result in damage to the instrument and will no be covered under warranty.

SETTING STRING ACTION

"Action" is measured by the distance between the string and the fret.lbanez standard action is set from the top of the fourteenth fret to the bottom of the string.

Note: Make sure the truss rod is properly adjusted before adjusting the action.

The action can be easily adjusted by raising or lowering the bridge studs or saddles depending on the model.

If lower than standard settings are desired, this can often result in"buzz" or "rattle" of the strings. This is caused by the string vibrating.

Different gauges of strings can result in the need for truss rod, tremolo, action or intonation adjustment.

LO-PRO EDGE TREMOLO ARM INFO

The tremolo arm can be inserted and removed very easily.

Insert the tremolo arm into the arm socket and firmly push down until the arm snaps into place

Note: Both bushings should be completely hidden. To remove the tremolo arm, firmly hold the arm at the break over point (bend) and pull up until the arm is released.

LO-PRO EDGE/ EDGE Tremolo Arm Torque.
The rotation torque of the arm can be adjusted by changing the number of bushings on the arm. To reduce the torque, remove one bushing on the lower side. To further reduce the torque, remove both bushings. *You may notice that after some time it may be impossible to secure the arm even when both bushing are in place. If this happens, replace the arm bushings with new ones.

1. To replace the bushings, remove the bushings by spreading (opening) the bushing until it is removed.Open the new bushings at the split section and snap them into place on the tremolo arm.

Tremolo Angle Adjustment

The tremolo system should sit parallel to the surface of the guitar body, as shown in the illustration. It is sometime necessary to adjust the tremolo angle when new strings, different string gauges or different tunings are used.

1. Remove the tremolo cavity cover plate from the back of the body.

2. Using a Phillips head screw driver, turn the Spring tension adjustment screw and adjust the length of the spring.

3. Retune the guitar to the proper pitch and check the angle.

ADJUSTING THE STRING HEIGHT

1. The height adjustment of the tremolo can be set by using the two 4mm adjustment screws (2) on either side of the tremolo unit.

Note: the height adjustment screws are locked internally by the Stud lock screw (3). Always loosen the Stud lock screws counter clockwise with a 1 .5mm allen wrench before adjusting the string height.

2. Raise or lower the tremolo to the desired string height using a 4mm allen wrench.

3. Tighten the Stud lock screw (3)

LO-PRO AND EDGE STRING CHANGE AND VIDEO

Note: For ease in retuning, it is recommended that one string at a time be changed and tuned.

1. Loosen the Pressure pad lock screws on the TOPLOK III with a 3mm wrench. Loosen the string by turning the tuner and then remove the string.

2. Loosen the string stopper screw (8) by using a 3mm allen wrench remove the string from the saddle.

3. Cut off the ball end of the new string above the string winding and insert the end of the string in between the main saddle and the String holder block

4. Tighten the String stopper Screw.

5. Wind the string around the tuning machine and tune to pitch

6. After changing the desired strings retune all the strings and tighten the TOPLOK III Pressure pad screws

INTONATION

Note: All Ibanez guitars use A=44OHz for a standard pitch.

Play the harmonic at the 12th fret, compare it to the fretted note at the 12th fret, these notes should read the same on the tuner.

*Before adjusting the intonation, first determine the direction that the saddle needs to be moved.

Note: If the 12th fret harmonic pitch is lower than the fretted note, the saddle needs to be moved back. If the 12th fret harmonic is higher than the fretted note, the saddle needs to be moved forward.

1. Loosen the Pressure pad screws on the TOPLOK Ill with a 3 mm allen wrench and loosen the string to be adjusted.

2. Loosen the Saddle lack down screw 9 on the saddle to be adjusted with a 2mm allen wrench.

Note: Only loosen the screw enough to move the saddle.

3. Adjust the saddle forward or backward to the proper position and tighten the Saddlelock down screw 9.

*On the bass plate there are two holes for each Saddle lock down screw. The purpose of this is to accommodate for different tunings or different gauges of strings.

4. Tune the guitar to pitch and recheck the intonation. If the intonation is still not correct repeat steps 1, 2 and 3.

5. When the guitar is properly adjusted, tighten the TOPLOKIll Pressure pad lack screws.

LOW-TRSII

1. TREMOLO ARM INSTALLATION

Insert the tremolo arm into the arm socket and turn the Arm torque adjustment nut (A) clockwise until it stops.

2. ADJUSTING THE TREMOLO ARM ROTATION TORQUE LOW TRS II TREMOLO

To allow the arm to swing freely. Turn the Arm torqueadjustment nut 1-2 turns counter clockwise.

3. ADJUSTING THE STRING HEIGHT

1.The height adjustment of the tremolo can be set by using the two 3mm adjustment screws on either side of the tremolo unit.

2. Raise or lower the tremolo to the desired string height using a 3mm allen wrench.

2. Loosen the saddle lock down screw® on the saddle to be adjusted with a 2mm allen wrench. Note: Only loosen the screw enough to move the saddle.

3. Adjust the saddle forward or backward to the proper position and tighten the saddle lock down screw .

On the bass plate there are two holes for each saddle lock down screw. The purpose of this is to accommodate for different tunings or different gauges of strings.

4. Tune the guitar to pitch and recheck the intonation. If the intonation is still not correct repeat steps 2 and 3.

5. When the guitar is properly adjusted, tighten the top lock pressure pad screws

SINGLE LOCKING TREMOLO

Note For ease in retuning., it is recommended that one string at time be changed and tuned.

1. Loosen the pressure pad lock screws on the top lock with a 3.Omm allen wrench. Loosen the string by turning the tuner and then remove the string.

2. Thread the new string through the string holder tube , and over the saddle
pulling it tight towards the headstock.

3. Wlnd the string around the tuning machine and tune to pitch.

4. Tighten the pressure pad screws.

TREMOLO ANGLE ADJUSTMENT

The tremolo system should sit parallel to the surface of the guitar body, as shown in the illustration. It is sometime necessary to adjust the tremolo angle when new strings, different string gauges or different tunings are used.

1. Remove the tremolo cavity cover plate from the back of the body.

TZ Bridges

The Overall Tremolo height can be adjusted by raising or lowering the Height Adjustment screws (5)on either side of the bridge.

Height adjustment of the individual strings can be adjusted by useing a 1.5mm allen wrench inside each saddle(11)

The tremolo arm is placed in the hole in the bridge plate and inserted into the threaded block. (5)

GIBRALTAR II BRIDGE

Adjusting the String Height.

1. Loosen the heigth adjustment screw (5) on both sides of the bridge using a #2 Phillips

2. Turn the notched wheel (4) To raise or lower the bridge.

ACCUCAST BIV BASS BRIDGE

Adjusting the string Height. The Saddles are preset on the plate. Height adjustment is made by adjusting the 2mm allen screws on either side of the bridge.

To change the strings angle adjust the two 2mm (6) screws on the highside of the bridge, chanding the pivot angle.

ATK BASS BRIDGE AND STANDARD BASS BRIDGE

To adjust the string height of the saddles use a 1.5mm allen wrench on each saddle (4)

To adjust Intonation adjust the phillips head screw back or forth.
